We are very pleased to announce that Virginia Weiler and Allen Garr have both been elected to the Vancity Board of directors! Heather Tremain also had very strong support, but unfortunately was not among the top three candidates.

Thank you to everyone for your help and support, especially to the current Action Team Board members and those who took the time to volunteer. And thank you to the members who voted!

If you have already voted, thank you! If you haven’t voted yet, this is a friendly reminder that the deadline is coming quickly, on Saturday March 27. Please visit your branch or fill out your mail-in ballot and send it in. March 27 is the last day when votes can be cast in-branch or received by mail. You can vote in person at most Vancity branches between March 19 to March 27, 2010. You will need your Vancity card or other ID. In order to vote, members must be at least 19 years of age with an account in good standing. Joint tenants on an account will not be able to vote unless full member status has been requested before the election period.

Introducing the Action Team

Introducing the Action Team for the upcoming 2010 Vancity Board of Directors elections. Incumbent Vancity Board vice-chair and economic development specialist Virginia Weiler will join two new Action Team candidates — green community developer Heather Tremain co-chair of the Vancity Community Foundation and well-known journalist and urban agriculture activist Allen Garr.

The Action Team is a progressive coalition that has provided the Vancity Board with 25 years of exceptional leadership for social change, in our community and for the environment.

The Action Team platform will be released in the coming weeks and will focus on progressive solutions to protect all members.

Elections are open to all Vancity Members, and will be held by mail from February 28 to March 27 and in branches from March 19 -27.

2010 Vancity Board Elections – Who can vote

The Vancity Board of Directors election will take place from February 28 to March 27, 2010 by mail ballot and from March 19 to March 27, 2010 in select branches.

You must be a member in good standing i.e.

over 19 years of age;
be the first named on the account or have applied for full member status;
not be delinquent in any obligation to Vancity; and,
have at least $5.00 in your membership share account as of January 22, 2010.

To check your status, please contact any branch, call 604.877.7000 (toll free 1.888.Vancity), or call a Governance Officer at 604.877.6548.

Please note that the cutoff date for the 2010 voters list will be January 22, 2010.

There will be three 3-year positions available in 2010 and candidate’s information will be posted to vancity.com at the end of January.

The Election Bulletin will be mailed to all eligible voting members.

The Action Team had a link to a video that could give the impression that Vancity endorsed the Action Team and that the Action Team was responsible for actions of Vancity. We apologize if this is the impression left by the video. The Action Team is a group that works to get certain individuals elected to the Vancity Board.
